BELL Park has stormed into the preliminary final with a strong 39-point win over Colac at Kardinia Park yesterday. The win sets up a match up against South Barwon next Saturday at Kardinia Park. The two teams have finals experience against each other after they met two years ago in the grand final. Bell Park coach John Fitzgerald said his side would be ready for the challenge. "South Barwon is the yard stick and they have been for a few years now," Fitzgerald said after watching his team overpower Colac. "We know we can play 120 minutes of football and that will give us a chance." The Dragons started the game strongly against Colac despite kicking into a two goal breeze. With Colac struggling to adapt to the intensity of the game, unforced errors gave Bell Park a lot of the ball in the middle. "We have a pretty good record this year kicking into the win, so we have an expectation to do well," Fitzgerald said. "We want to be attacking and not too defensive when we are against it." Taking a 21 point lead into the quarter time break, Colac was expected to bounce back. They did, with Travis Woodmason at his troublesome best in the forward line kicking Colac's first three goals of the quarter. Still marred by poor decision making, the Bell Park midfielders, in particular Nick Batchelor and Tim Sheringham, pushed forward and began hurting the Tigers on the scoreboard. "Everyone knows to be a top three team in the GFL you need to have an eight deep midfield," Fitzgerald said. "It is something that we have worked hard to put together. That being said you also need to players to be willing to share the load, and they do that for us." Looking down the barrel at half time a more physical Colac came out kicking the first two goals of the half to bring the margin back to 11 points. For the rest of the quarter both teams exchanged blows on the scoreboard and on the field with Bell Park holding a slender 10 point lead at the last break. "We knew they would come out hard and take it up to us," Fitzgerald said. "At three quarter time the game was still in the balance and we knew that they were going to keep coming." Woodmason had the chance to bring the margin back to six points early in the last quarter, but he missed to the right and Colac's hopes were slowly disappearing. Minutes later, a quick snap from the boundary by Nick Batchelor sealed the game. Multiple junk time goals capped off a brilliant performance for the Dragons and set up what will be one of the matches of the year. "It was a really pleasing performance, but now we have our eyes set out next week," Fitzgerald said.
